A category tells you what a transaction was for: Groceries, Dining out, or Salary. A group holds related categories, such as Groceries and Dining out under Flexible.
Your household shares one category list. You can rename a category, add a new one, or organize groups.
For the full starting list, see Vylo’s default categories, with definitions and examples.
Should I rename a category or create another one?
Rename it when the same spending needs a clearer label. Create a new category when you want to track that spending separately—for example, Childcare and School expenses instead of a single Kids category.
Renaming keeps the transactions already assigned to the category. Creating another category gives you a separate category with no history assigned to it yet.
Does changing a name change the sorting?
No. A new name alone doesn’t create new merchant matches. Use Remember merchant or custom keywords to change where future purchases go.
